What is manchu names?

Manchu names traditionally consist of a given name and a family name, which comes first. Family names usually consist of one or two syllables and are commonly derived from place names, animals, plants, or objects. Given names can have one or two syllables and often have a deep meaning related to nature or geographical features.

In the past, Manchu people used a special naming system based on the age and gender of the child. The first name given to a newborn was unique and based on the season in which they were born (spring, summer, autumn, or winter). When the child reached the age of six, a second name was given based on gender, followed by a third name at age 13, and a fourth name at age 16. These names were sometimes changed later in life due to specific events or personal preferences.

Today, Manchu names have become more westernized, and many Manchu people have adopted international names or Chinese names. However, the traditional naming system is still used in some families, and ancient Manchu names remain a source of pride and cultural identity.
